InRumor offers you a recap of this week’s iPhone 5 rumors.

iPhone 5 could feature liquipel technology

A small U.S. company has created a method of using a “nano” coating of the inside and outside of the iPhone that promises to make smartphones completely waterproof.

This new tech is called Liquipel.

“Water will just run through the machine,” says Liquipel president Danny McPhail. “It actually beads right on top of the circuit board and rolls off.”

Gorilla Glass 2 will make smartphones lighter and stronger

In anticipation of the future iPhone 5, analysts are predicting a future partnership between Apple and Corning Inc., a company that recently introduced the next generation of its famous glass known for its resistance, the Gorilla Glass 2.

“The thinner Gorilla Glass 2 enables slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity,” a press release from Corning states.

The new Gorilla Glass is up to 20% thinner than the original but it still offers the same strength.

iPhone 5 eyed by T-Mobile USA

T-Mobile’s CEO Philipp Humm has acknowledged that the Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) hurdle is an important reason for the carrier’s lack of the iPhone 5.

However, in an interview with CNET, Humm revealed that Apple’s next chipset will offer support for AWS.

4G LTE technology, which runs at least partly on AWS spectrum, is likely to be featured on the next-gen iPhone.

iPad 3, iPhone 5 will offer 20 times more performance

Imagination Technologies unveiled PowerVR G6200 and G6400 graphic processors at CES 2012 on Tuesday.

The company, which builds the GPUs for Apple’s mobile products, announced this week that the future A6 chipset, which is believed to be introduced in the iPhone 5, could have a GPU that is 20-times more powerful than the current A5 model.

PowerVR Series6 GPUs can offer computing performance “exceeding 100 gigaflops and reaching the teraflops range, enabling high-level graphics performance from mobile through to high-end compute and graphics solutions,” the company stated.

iPhone celebrates 5th anniversary

The iPhone celebrated 5 years of existence this week.

“An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator,” Steve Jobs said in January 2007. “An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator…. These are not three separate devices! This is one device. And we are calling it iPhone. Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone. Here it is.”

Each new generation of iPhone has become more successful than its predecessor and Apple has managed to completely redefine the smartphone market.

Since 2007, each new version is the subject of much attention. Launched last October, the iPhone 4S collected one million pre-orders the day after its presentation.

iPhone 5 will be slimmer and will work on all networks

The iPhone 5 could come with a thinner body due to new touch panel technology and Apple might introduce the device in the quarter ending in June, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said.

In addition, Hubert believes that Apple’s next-generation iPhone could include a quad-mode chip from Qualcomm that would allow it to operate on all 3G and LTE networks.

This prediction joined the recent announcement that Verizon requires that all future smartphones released on the carrier support 4G LTE technology.

iPhone 5 is the most anticipated gadget of 2012

A poll by SodaHead, an online community, has revealed that Apple’s handset is the “Most Anticipated Tech Product of 2012.″

The iPhone 5 topped the list with 35% of the vote, followed by the iPad 3 (20%), Google tablet (16%), the PlayStation Vita (12%), Wii U (11%) and the Kindle Fire 2 (7%).

In the poll attracted 513 responses.

The iPhone 5 is expected to be released this year but the date is still uncertain, with analysts speculating that the gadget will likely arrive in the fall.
