iPhone 5 release date: Steve Jobs’ signature project before death

CNET discusses the subject and reveals some information about the next iPhone 5.

The next iPhone represents “the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with from concept to final design,” Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar writes, as cited by CNET. “For that reason … this product will establish the high water mark for iPhone volumes.”

The analyst adds that from the concept to the final design Jobs followed “closely” all the steps, which should make it “cult classic” at the time of its release, probably in the summer of 2012.

Kumar believes that the iPhone 5 will adopt a thinner design and a bigger screen while maintaining the size of the iPhone 4S with the technology 4G-LTE.

In the research note, Kumar also said the iPhone 5 will likely be released in the summer of 2012.

In addition, CNET’s Brooke Crothers cites a source he spoke with this week that claims “to have knowledge of the redesign,” saying “the iPhone 5 is a ‘complete redesign. This is a very large project that Steve dedicated all of his time to. He was not that involved in the 4S because his time was limited’.”

Steve Jobs died last week after a long battle with cancer.
