Apple’s new Lightning port will reportedly offer support for USB peripheral hosting, Macotakara reports.

According to MacRumors, with this new feature users will be able to connect various accessories, such as keyboards, directly to their mobile devices through the Lightning port.

The same site notes that in this case Apple will have to offer device support for this functionality, besides the Lightning compatibility, so that accessory manufacturers will be able “to tap into the USB capabilities.”

The report also states that this functionality was applied with the iPad Camera Connection Kit that gives users the possibility of connecting the camera, as well as other peripherals, to the iPad.

After the new Lighting port was unveiled, the iPhone 5 and the new iPod touch will get new type of accessories.
