iPhone 5 roundup this week: Chinese launch, iPhone 5S release rumors, deals and more

Another week, another round of news about Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone.

This week marked the official launch of Apple’s new iPhone in China and 32 other countries.

In this Asian country, the iPhone 5 devices sold to users include a free micro-USB adapter for Lightning.

Apparently, the demand for the iPhone 5 remains high according to many Apple suppliers, despite the difficulties of initial production.

A report from Strategy Analytics shows that 27% of the LTE smartphone market belongs to Apple’s smartphone.

In addition, a survey conducted by investment institutions Piper Jaffray on more than 800 U.S. consumers found that more than half plan to buy the iPhone 5 in the next three months.

However, according to BGR, UBS analyst Steve Milunovich doesn’t seem very optimistic about Apple’s new iPhone as he expects iPhone production to drop to 25 million units in Q1 of 2013.

“Some of our Chinese sources do not expect the iPhone 5 to do as well as the iPhone 4S,” he wrote.

In terms of bargains, Best Buy announced this week that they are taking $50 off iPhone 5 and 4S models on all major carriers in the US that sell the devices – Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint, with a two-year-contract.

Also, Walmart stores are now offering the 16GB iPhone 5 for just $127 on contract and the iPhone 4S for $47 on contract.

Accessories for the handset were made available from Photojojo – a loop named the iPhone Wrist Strap, and from Element Case – the Sector 5 case which the company calls the accessory the “most extreme case” it has ever created.

Since this week marked three years since Angry Birds appeared, its creators announced the release of the Angry Birds 3.0 that has been adapted for the larger screen of the iPhone 5 and 5-generation iPod Touch.

Finally, iPhone 5S release date rumors were continued by Jefferies analyst Peter Misek who believes Apple’s next iPhone will come out in June 2013, featuring a new screen and super HD camera, better autonomy and NFC capabilities.
