iPhone 5 rumors: 4-inch screen reportedly being shipped to Apple

Reports inform that four-inch screens are under development by Sony Mobile Display Display and Hitatchi for iOS devices.

The iPhone 5 is said to feature a large 4-inch screen, finally breaking with the traditional 3.5-inch screen found on all generations of iPhone until the iPhone 4S.

According to Japanese site Macotakara, Hitachi Displays, Ltd. and Sony Mobile Display Corporation have begun shipping the first 4-inch LCDs from Apple.

Hitachi and Sony are expected to deliver 4-inch LCD 4 and the device will hit the market in 2012.

In addition, Sony and Hitachi ill merge with Toshiba Mobile Display Co. Ltd to become a new company called Japan Display next year, in the purpose of increasing their global market position.

These three Japanese companies have decided to strengthen their position to fight against Korean leaders such as LG and Samsung. Japan Display is expected to be the largest global supplier of screens.
