iPhone 5 rumors: Apple advises developers to double resolution

Cupertino asked developers to submit future icons for iOS applications at twice the current resolution.

The company has reportedly asked developers of applications to submit icons with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels. The current recommended is 512 x 512 pixels, but next month it will be double and the change might have two main reasons.

The first relates to the retina display of the iPad 3 which has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, making it 4 times the recommended resolution for icons, and the second reason could be related to a possible increase in resolution of the screen for the iPhone 5.

A 1136 x 640 resolution is rumored to be featured in the next iPhone, and it is more than double the recommended one for icons, which confirms the request sent by Apple.
