iPhone 5 rumors: Apple to be the only provider of new adaptors?

The company is rumored to be the only vendor for this new accessory for a while.

Even though nothing has been officially confirmed, reports of an 8-pin or 19-pin dock connector have been rife lately.

According to an iLounge report, Apple could be the only company selling the new dock adaptors that work with current accessories.

Apple is rumored to sell the adapter for US$10 each and US$29 for a pack of three, the site’s sources claim.

According to the insiders, Cupertino expects to sell 10 million new adapters by the end of 2012, generating an estimated $100 million in revenue.

The site also writes that developers fear that the company plans to dominate the cable and adapter markets in the same way it did with MagSafe connectors for its laptops.

The next-generation iPhone will be unveiled at an Apple event next Wednesday in San Francisco.
