iPhone 5 rumors: new leaks show no sign of NFC chip

Photos of components for the next-generation iPhone continue to appear online.

In August, Japanese blog Macotakara posted photos of an assembled front panel of the iPhone 5.

The images showed a square placed near the top of the device which was rumored to have something to do with NFC capabilities.

On Thursday, Sonny Dickson published a series of pictures that show what lies beneath the square bracket.

Apparently, there is no NFC chip located under the bracket, but rather an earpiece speaker.

What the bracket also seems to house are the forward-facing FaceTime camera and the proximity sensor.

The iPhone 5 is rumored to be released at a media event next Wednesday at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
