The iPhone 5 has long been rumored to feature a Nano-SIM card that is 40 % smaller than current micro-SIM cards.
German site iFun.de has posted a picture of the new Nano-SIM that is currently being distributed by Deutche Telekom to its partners.
The letters that accompany the new SIM cards specify that they are intended for “the latest generation of smartphones,” but don’t mention the iPhone 5.
A translation of the message was posted by 9to5mac:
You will receive today a new generation of SIM cards for the latest generation of smartphones that come in the near future on the market. Sort your SIM card please first not in their cards in hand and give it not out to customers. We will inform you shortly about how to proceed.”
According to AppleInsider, European wireless operators have ordered Nano-SIMs ahead of the iPhone 5 launch but the leaked picture posted by iFun.de is “the first evidence of an official carrier Nano-SIM card in the wild.”
The iPhone 5 is expected to be announced at a live Apple keynote on September 12.
