Photos of what is claimed to be the iPhone 5 compared to the battery found in the iPhone 4S have been leaked online.

Repair firm iResQ has posted pics of the iPhone 5 battery placed in the rear casing, which they called a “perfect fit” with the “uni-body” chassis.

Compared to the current iPhone, the next-generation battery is taller and it is rated at 3.8 volts and a 5.45 watt-hours, slightly higher than the iPhone 4S’ 3.7 volt, 5.3 watt-hour unit.

The thickness is apparently unchanged even though the iPhone 5 is rumored to be at least 15% thinner than the iPhone 4S.

Here is what the site found:

“Key differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S battery:

1. The iPhone 5′s battery is slightly less than a half an inch taller than the iPhone 4S. The thickness appears to be identical.

2. The iPhone 5 is 3.8V/5.45Whr while the iPhone 4S is 3.7V/5.3Whr.

3. The connector on the iPhone 5 is not only different, it is placed on the opposite side of the battery to accommodate its new position within the iPhone.

4. UPDATE – The iPhone 5 battery weighs approximately .80oz. The iPhone 4S battery is approximately .96oz”

Apple will reportedly unveil the iPhone 5 next Wednesday at a media event.
