iPhone 5 rumors: next iPhone to work on Everything Everywhere’s 4G network in UK

UK’s communications regulator Ofcom has announced that it had approved Everything Everywhere’s request to deliver 4G services from September 11, 2012 in the UK.

In a statement on its website, Ofcom announced that as a result it would be able to deliver “significant benefits to consumers, and that there is no material risk that those benefits will be outweighed by a distortion of competition,“ according to The Next Web.

The September 11 launch of Everything Everywhere’s 4G network has led some market watchers to observe that the date is set one day prior to the rumored September 12 iPhone 5 release date.

A company spokesperson offered the following comment: “Ofcom’s decision to make 4G available this year is great news for the UK. Consumers will soon be able to benefit from the much greater mobile speeds that 4G will deliver. 4G will drive investment, employment and innovation and we look forward to making it available later this year, delivering superfast mobile broadband to the UK.”

A Pocket-lint source says that if the iPhone 5 comes with 4G compatibility in the UK, Everything Everywhere would be the only network provider running 4G on the 1800MHz spectrum band.

Contacted by Pocket-lint, Apple refused to comment on the rumors.
