New images of early prototypes of Apple’s devices have surfaced online.

The images are part of court documents from the Apple vs. Samsung trial case filings and were discovered by The Verge.

The pictures present multiple versions of the iPhone and the iPad.

Interestingly, MacRumors notes that there is a similarity between one of these prototypes and the rumored iPhone 5.

A prototype iPhone with a central aluminum backing and a two-tone design appears very similar to Apple’s next smartphone.

The site compares two images. One is a prototype iPhone design posted by the Verge, while the other is a rendering of the next generation iPhone by Blackpool Creative.

The latter was made based on leaked arts of the future iPhone.

MacRumors concludes that the iPhone 5 could have been developed from early Apple prototypes.
