InRumor offers you a recap of this week’s iphone 5 rumors on the net.

iPhone 5 rumors: quad-core and 16:9 720p display coming next year?

Apple’s next device is believed to bring a higher resolution 4-inch display and a new CPU.

According to German site Macerkopf, Apple is testing out both dual-core and quad-core CPUs for future iOS devices.

Reports say that the iPhone 5 will include a quad-core CPU, a step ahead of the iPhone 4S CPU which is dual-core only.

Besides the 4-inch increase in the size of the screen, reports also say that the next generation devices could be powered by a resolution of 1280 by 720, which would be the best quality screen on the market.

In addition, Apple is thought to be considering the aspect ratio of the display. The current model has a 3:2 aspect ratio, but in the future that could change to a 1440 x 900 display, which is the HD standard 16:9 widescreen resolution.

Previous reports also speculate that the iPhone 5 will include LTE technology and that it will be released in March 2012.

iPhone 5 rumors: Apple testing quad-core processors

The Cupertino-based company is reportedly working on multiple configurations of its next smartphone.

German Mac site Macerkopf cites two sources that claim Apple is testing quad-core CPU’s in order to see the viability of a quad-core iPhone.

The site also writes that two iPhone models are being tested at present, one equipped with a dual-core, the other with a quad-core processor.

In addition, the company is said to be developing quad-core A6 as successors to its current A5 and A4 chips.

Also under testing are various screen resolutions, including those of 1280 x 720p and 1440 x 800p, perhaps as a reaction to competitors such as Android already using a 1,280 x 720 resolution on some of its devices.

NFC is reportedly being tested by Apple as well as it is also slated for inclusion in the next-generation iPhone.

iPhone 5 rumors: shatterproof OLED display for the iPhone 5

According to rumors of the past weeks, Apple’s next-generation iDevices will reportedly feature an OLED display.

OLED diѕрlаy ѕtаnds for Organic Light Emitting Diode dіѕplaу.

Mac OS Rumors reported that the OLED display will also be shatterproof and far more resistant than the current “gorilla glass” and LCD design used in the iPhone 4S and previous generations.

The site also writes that the resolution would remain the same, 960×640, but its size would increase to approximately 4 inches.

Various materials are reportedly used for the frame, including aluminum, Titanium, as well as a “thermoplastic carbon fiber material.”

In addition, sources say that Apple tests have revealed a 0% crack rate when the devices equipped with such displays were dropped from as high as 12 feet onto a concrete or tile surface.

iPhone 5 rumors: photo taken with iPhone 5 leaks online?

A picture captured by what seems to be the future iPhone model leaked online around three months ago.

According to, who claims to have found the image on the web, although it doesn’t specify its source, the photo is said to have been taken by an iPhone 4, but judging by its EXIF data, the truth seems to be somewhere else.

The site explains that even though the pic was cropped to 2235×2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original resolution was actually 3264×2448, which fits around 8 megapixels on a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Needless to say, rumors have been rife lately that the iPhone 5 will come equipped with an 8-megapixel snapper.

In addition, writes, “the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4′s actual 3.85mm f/2.8.”

In all likelihood, an Apple engineer is the one who took the picture.

A reader on the site managed to straighten out the curved reflection on the plate through image processing, making visible what seems to be a phone.

What do you think? Is this really a photo taken with the much-awaited iPhone 5?
