Screen size, form, apps. Everyone is looking forward to the up-coming iPhone 5 and its rumored release date.
InRumors asks you to choose the most intriguing iPhone 5 rumor in the past weeks. Which is the most credible iPhone 5 rumor? Voting is open until Wednesday (December 14).
According to a source that wants to remain anonymous, an iPhone 5 close to what was imagined by the rumors did exist.
Numerous rumors from recent months stated that Apple had indeed developed a prototype for the iPhone 5, before finally abandoning the profile in favor of the iPhone 4S.
However, a source cited by Business Insider claims that the smartphone did exist in a prototype form and that he actually spent about two weeks with it.
The insider claims Steve Jobs bottled the handset just months before Apple was going to announce it because he was unhappy with the fact that the device had a 4-inch screen, larger than prior iPhones, which he thought would “fragment” the company’s iPhone line.
The source also reveals some information that seems to confirm previous rumors that talked about a break in the traditional design of the iPhone.
According to the insider, the iPhone 5 is said to have a new design, including a 4in screen and an aluminium back, like the iPad 2. The device might also feature a touch-sensitive home button as opposed to a physical press button.
Other characteristics included a 10 megapixel camera and a much slimmer design, more similar to that of the iPod Touch.
Also, the processor was said to be much faster than the iPhone 4 but the power management was still not effective.
New details about the rumored features of the highly anticipated iPhone 5 have begun spreading again.
Business Insider recently reported that one of its sources had access to a prototype of the device, claiming that the iPhone 5 will have a 4 inch screen, an aluminum case in different colors, a 10-megapixel camera, a much slimmer design and a touch-sensitive home button as opposed to a physical press button.
“You could touch it and hold it and physically reboot the device,” the source said about the new home button.
New reports say that the source also talked about the ‘liquid metal’ technology that Apple plans to use in order to make colored iPhones. Liquid Metal is like paint made out of aluminum, full saturated with color, highly resistant to scratching.
In addition, the prototype featured the new Siri voice-operated app – as it is on the iPhone 4S – then called Assistant.
But the latest rumor that has left many dreaming of the new iPhone is the one regarding Apple’s plans to offer the device a curved Gorilla Glass display.
In May, the Cupertino company reportedly purchased 200-300 glass-cutting machines that specialize in curved screens, fueling speculation that the iPhone 5 will feature a curved glass screen.
While many were disappointed with the release of the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5, Apple lift spirits by unveiling its latest updated iOS 5.
The revolutionary brand decided to make available the new update for the operating systems of iPhone, iPad and iPod: iOS 5.
The update brought 200 new features, among which the most notable are the Notification Center , fully customizable, the arrival of a unified messaging application iMessage, the new application reminder, which makes sure that you remember important tasks and can even alert you depending on your location.
When Steve Jobs passed away in October, Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar believed that the next iPhone would represent “the last project that Steve Jobs was intimately involved with from concept to final design.”
“For that reason … this product will establish the high water mark for iPhone volumes,” he wrote.
The analyst added that from the concept to the final design Jobs followed “closely” all the steps, which should make it a “cult classic” at the time of its release which many assume to be 2012
Apple is said to be in the process of ordering “volumes for keyparts and components” according to DigiTimes, for next-generation devices, including the iPhone 5 and iPad 3.
Sources claim that the next generation iPad 3 will arrive in stores in Q3, the July to September quarter, of 2012.
As for the iPhone 5, DigiTimes claims that the device is unlikely to be revealed until “the second half of 2012” and that it would be redesigned completely.
Apple is rumored to be funding Hitachi and Sony in making 4-inch IGZO displays.
According to recent reports, the Cupertino company has signed a deal with Sharp to build LCD panels for its next-generation devices.
AppleInsider claims that Apple has invested a “significant amount” in Sharp for the production of IGZO displays, which will allow the device to be thinner and offer better battery life.
The IGZO display will apparently boast a higher 330ppi resolution in the same slimline form.
Reports say that shipments of the displays are already on the way. IGZO panels are expected to first appear in Apple’s iPad 3.
The nano-SIM measures only 12 x 9 mm, making it the smallest SIM card in the world.
At Apple’s request, a new generation of SIM cards has been developed: the nano-SIM. By reducing a standard SIM card to about half its normal size, the company was able to deliver the iPhone 4, its thinnest smartphone yet.
The nano-SIM card offers a size of 12 x 9 x 0.66 mm, compared to the micro-SIM that measures 15 x 12 x 0.76 mm.
Advantages of the nano-SIM include a decrease in size by 52%, meaning more space in the smartphone, a larger storage capacity, but also increased security.
Word on the net is that the future iPhone 5 could feature this miniaturized version.
That would certainly fit in with rumors circulating earlier this year – ahead of the iPhone 4S launch – that Apple was readying a refreshed iPhone 5 with a significant change in industrial design and specifications.
