Apparently, the reason for this is that Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, is experiencing problems in the manufacturing process.

According to an executive that spoke to the Wall Street Journal, “the iPhone 5 is the most difficult device that Foxconn has ever assembled.”

“To make it light and thin, the design is very complicated. It takes time to learn how to make this new device. Practice makes perfect. Our productivity has been improving every day.”

As for the scratching issues that users have recently complained about, the executive commented that it is “always hard to satisfy both aesthetic needs and practical needs.”

Recent reports claimed that tensions between workers and management arose due to “overly strict” product-quality demands. However, the claims were denied by Foxconn.
