Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has issued his predictions for Apple’s product lineup this year.
According to Kuo, who has a good track record in predicting Apple products, most Apple events will not come before the beginning of the third quarter.
Thus, Cupertino will launch a significantly lighter and thinner iPad 5 and an iPad Mini with Retina Display.
He expects the same resolution as the current 9.7-inch Retina iPads, that is, 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. The pixel density would rise due to the smaller screen size of the iPad mini.
Both claims confirmed by other analysts. However, Kuo believes in a release in the second half of this year.
Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad could also be improved this year, not only on the inside, but also on the form factor.
Kuo expects Apple to introduce a new iPhone 5S and an upgraded iPhone 5 in the third quarter of 2013.
The iPhone 5S would be very similar to the current iPhone 5, but several new features including an A7 system-on-a-chip, a fingerprint sensor and camera improvements.
He expects that the lower-cost iPhone will be slightly thicker (8.2 mm) and it may come in a plastic chassis available in six colors.
Kuo also commented on the recent rumors of an Apple HDTV. He doesn’t believe such a product would be released this year.
Later this quarter, Apple could update its Apple TV.
