The company is reportedly pondering the possibility of equipping the next-generation iPhone, iPad and iPad mini with Sharp’s IGZO displays.

Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reports that Apple wants the future iPad, iPad mini and iPhone to come with IGZO displays produced by Sharp.

Apple is reportedly also in discussions about whether display partner AU Optronics’ (AUO) L5C production line can be used in the production of IGZO displays.

The Cupertino giant has been rumored to be planning to use IGZO panels, but was unable to because of the limited production yields.

The IGZO screens technology, based on indium, gallium and zinc, provides a number of advantages: low power consumption, high density of pixels and thinner displays.

In addition, besides reducing the size of the device itself, it also increases touch sensitivity.
