New rumors about the iPad 2
A Japanese site is relying on Chinese sources to give some details about the possible characteristics of the iPad 2. An official announcement could come next February.
The site Macotakara is relying on anonymous sources from China, where iPad 2 is currently being assembled.
The new tablet could be finer than 3 mm, and has the dimensions of 239 x 186 x 10.4 mm x 189.7 x 242.8 against 13.4 mm for the current version. Its back is also flatter, like that of the iPod touch. The screen size would remain the same, namely 9.7 inches.
The first covers appeared in photos on the web earlier this month suggested that the iPad 2 could have a USB port or memory card reader and it might also benefit from a more powerful speaker than the first generation iPad. The latter would be protected by a grid, as can be seen in the picture below.
The light sensor might also change its place from the front of the tablet to its back: it is the only information that is inconsistent with the covers already seen, since there is no space at the rear that could allow the sensor to do its job.
Macotakara concluded by indicating that the tablet could have two cameras like the iPhone 4, providing, among other things, benefit from the application FaceTime. According to rumors, iPad 2 could be unveiled by Apple in February and hit on market in April.
