Sony says PSP2 is as powerful as a PS3

Sony said its “licensees” (ie people who develop games) that the PSP2 “is as powerful as the PlayStation 3″.

This is part of a strategy developed by Sony for its future positioning handheld which hasn’t been officially revealed.

Sony is “specifically requesting richer, more in-depth content to differentiate its device from app-centric Apple and Android devices.”

Apparently, the downloads will play an important role but the PSP2 will be able to play physical media, so you can always buy your games. The console will come out in the fourth quarter of this year, possibly in October.

It is rumored that the PSP2 could also incorporate a kind of phone even if it’s not its ” primary function,” perhaps like in the case of Skype on the current PSP?
