Stephen Hawking says the universe was “not necessary” created by God
One of world’s greatest mind says in a forthcoming book that God didn’t create the universe.
In the new book, Stephen Hawking argues that the Big Bang was inevitable due to the law of gravity, rather than occurring following the intervention of a divine being.
22 years ago, in 1988, Hawking had a slightly different approach. In his book “A Brief History of Time” he had seemed to accept the role of God in the creation of the universe. “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we should know the mind of God.”
“The Grand Design”, an extract of which appears in the Times today, contests Sir Isaac Newton’s belief that the universe must have been designed by God as it could not have been created out of chaos.
“Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing,” he writes. “Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.
“It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going.”
“The fact that we human beings – who are ourselves mere collections of fundamental particles of nature – have been able to come this close to an understanding of the laws governing us and our universe is a great triumph.”
Hawking says the first blow to Newton’s belief that the universe could not have arisen from chaos was the observation in 1992 of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun. “That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions – the single sun, the lucky combination of Earth-sun distance and solar mass – far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings,” he writes.

i m agree with sir Issac newton & not with sir hawking about the creation of the universe.
If we are made of nothing, so why the physics’ rules are the way they are? For example why two electrones discharge each other and sth inverse doesn’t happen?? We can not prove that someone who is thought to create these rules doesn’t exist according to the rules which we don’t know why they’re the way they are. How can nothing really make rules? I’m not talking about the resource of matterial and energy. I talk about the way they behave and the rules between them. Who has assigned these rules? Nothing??!

Well, at first Hawkins believed in god, and the cruel “god” made him crippled. Even if god does exist, now Hawkins has every right to hate him, and not believe in him.
P.S. This just shows the intelligence and the true nature of religious people. I don’t think even if God existed, he would force people to believe in him, and he would probably not make people who do not crippled (unless he was as cruel as a lot of religious people say he is).

That religious people believe in God is their right. But in sciences, what you believe is just similar to a claim, without any proof. Mr Hawking proposed a great theory. What we should do is to understand it, then to be against it if we have acceptable clues and proofs. One more time, in sciences, beliefs are just what you believe, and you do not know what it is,……

God is a simple explanation for an extreamly complex universe. The idea of God was created back when people were very simple minded and began wondering how it all started. Of course the first beleivers told their childen about God and so on.
Anyone who is raised with the idea of God in their head will find if very difficult to cancel out these ideas(if they even try to). Old belifs die hard. Childern are very gullable, as were the simple minded people that lived thousands of years ago. Worship is rediculous.People worshiped statues at one time, now they seem to be worshiping the air. i bet deep down inside of him he believed. There could be a God and there might not be one. it all depends on your point of view. in my head there are different Universes ( Parallel Universe Theory) and each of these places have their own sets of laws. and every once and awhile one exists where Life can be created from Matter,Particles, Etc. some secrets are meant to be kept a secret. God (yes i do believe) in all of his Wisdom has created a place for Life to grow and Prosper. whether God or any other figure exists were just one out of Trillions and Trillions Species. I think this whole bickering on the matter is nonsense. Being only thirteen years of age, I see that most people older than me are far more incompetent on many levels, implying a life lesson: Age is not good way (accurately, at least) to guage maturity or intelligence. Although here and there, I do mispell and make a few mistake, I find that people like to play greatly on that, as they KNOW they seem ‘dumber’ than me in the eyes of most. Picture this: There’s a bunch of ‘Gods’ around. Allah. The Christian God. Bhudda. There are way more than that, but it’s just a short listing. let it be know that the Universe was not created in a split second. I my self attend to believe that maybe God did in fact created the start of the Universe, and then let the Universe unwound its self by pure nature. (why not? he is God to begin with, he can do anything he wishes) Then again its meaningless to talk about the events in the Universe without having any notions of space and time.
As someone who has read his books, Hawking has never explicitly said that God doesn’t exist, like the article is titled he merely says that God isn’t necessary to explain how the universe was created. One can still say that god created the science behind the universe.
