During yesterday’s keynote, Apple said support for “wideband audio” phone calls will be available in the iPhone 5.

Apple vice president Phil Schiller announced that the feature will be supported by over 20 carriers at the iPhone 5 launch, but didn’t specify US carriers.

While Verizon and AT&T have said that their networks are incompatible with the iPhone 5 version of HD Voice, Sprint has confirmed to PhoneScoop that the feature will not be supported.

The site writes that HD voice operates over the GSM-based WCDMA band, while Sprint’s service works on CDMA 1X technology.

The feature enhances the quality of calls to make voices sound more natural and it will be supported by carriers like Orange and Deutsche Telekom.

The iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order starting Friday at midnight.
