Aston Martin’s new app for iPhone: Experience

After the success of the Explore application, launched last December, Aston Martin surprises their fans who have iPhones again. The British luxury manufacturer announces a new application, called Experience, which comes with new attractive features.

Unlike the old application, which was free, this one costs $ 5.99. For this modest amount, the client benefits from a guide of the 40 major cities worldwide, as they are described in Hedonist Guide, and a Top Road Guide function, which is an impressive collection of memorable routes around the world that are worth trying.

The app will take full advantage of the famous Retina display, providing high resolution pictures and movies. Thanks to phone sensors, the application offers some functions of telemetry, allowing the user to record more data when he is in the car.

The filming feature that will allow the user to record his experience behind the wheel won’t be missing either. During filming, a sensor will display the speed. For those who want to have such an experience on an Aston Martin, the app offers some sound recordings of the Aston Martin engine, including that of the One-77 supercar.

New details about the Aston Martin – Mercedes partnership

Rumors on a possible collaboration between Aston Martin and Mercedes have been circulating since 2008. Unofficial sources have talked about a common usage of platforms and propellers, but rumors haven’t been confirmed by representatives of the two companies.

According to the latest speculation, the two brands have entered an agreement that stipulates the future production of the Maybach at the Aston Martin plants in Gaydon. The standard limo from the people at Daimler would lend the platform of the new generation of Mercedes S-Klasse and debut as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year.

In turn, Aston Martin would benefit from more components from the Mercedes range. These include the platform of the ML SUV, which will be used for the future Lagonda, and twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8, 435 hp and 700 Nm.

It seems that the partnership between the two companies will not stop here, as the collaborative plan takes into account the loan of hybrid technology, diesel engines and platforms. More information on the details of the agreement will be posted around the time of the Frankfurt Show in September.

The organizers of the World Car of the Year contest announced the finalists of the 2011 edition. They are the Audi A8, BMW Series 5 and Nissan Leaf.

The three models are competing at general categories, while the rest fight for “Green Car of the Year” and “Design of the Year.”

Regarding the “Green Car of the Year”, Nissan Leaf will have to face for the first time since its market debut, the Chevrolet Volt. While the American model is an electric vehicle in the true sense of the word, the two models have been bearing an ideological battle over a year.

The original list of models competing for the title included 39 nominees, chosen by 66 automotive journalists from 24 countries. To be eligible for the 2011 edition World Car of The Year, a model must be available on at least two continents and five countries from January 1, 2010 to May 30, 2011. For this reason, many popular models in the U.S. or Europe are not eligible for this award.

Aston Martin DBS

DBS was designed by Marek Reichmann, but is, in essence, an evolution of the DB7 model developed by Ian Callum. The model has remarkably voluptuous proportions, long hood, low ground clearance and an impressive length. The width of DBS is not overlooked, and all these surfaces are made by combining aluminum with carbon fiber. To ensure its success, Gaydon engineers have equipped the model with a V12 of 6.0 liters and 510 hp.

Audi R8 Spyder

Audi R8 Spyder is first and foremost a creative technique. Initially, the coupe version of the model could easily qualify for this contest, but the Spyder version was chosen for its appealing profile. At first, the model was offered only a 5.2-liter V10 engine and 525 horsepower, but Audi offers a 4.2-liter FSI V8 drive and 430 horsepower, for those in love with V8s.

Audi RS5

The fastest member of the A5 range is an impressive package both in style, as well as in performance. The model engine chosen for it is a 4.2-liter V8 FSI, 450 hp, screaming with all their power through the four exhaust pipes located under the rear bumper. The A5 has an elegant aspect, needing a few accessories to make it beautiful, but the RS version of it presents a set of aggressive traits that greatly fit the model from Ingolstadt.

Bentley Continental GT

Continental GT was the first creation of the brand in Crewe under the wing of Volkswagen. The Swiss from Jaeger-LeCoultre have made a watch that can lock and unlock an Aston Martin DB9. It is called Transporter AMVOX2 DB9 and it costs 15,833 euros, without taxes. This model is the third from Jaeger-LeCoultre that is able to open a car as the first units were made for models DBS and Rapide. Those at Jaeger-LeCoultre are official partners of the Aston Martin for the development of watches and other such items.

The first Transporter AMVOX watch was designed to be used as a key for Aston Martin DBS. It was a mechanical watch and it integrated a micro-transmitter that could control the central locking system of the DBS. Two years later, the Swiss launch the third generation of this revolutionary control system, this time a version for DB9. Another great feature of this watch is that the opening of the car is done not by pressing a button, but by pressing the sapphire glass of the watch above the surface on which the Open sign is located. Obviously, the driver must be near the vehicle in order to achieve this function.

The watch is equipped with a Find Me function, which allows the driver to switch the lights on for a few seconds in order to see where the vehicle is located in the parking lot. For the moment, there is no news about the possibility of implementing a remote starter system and a panic button. The watch itself is perfectly functional and it is made of titanium. The figures on its dial are with rhodium and a luminescent black substance.

Eight new Aston Martin Super Sport will cost almost $10 million each

Aston Martin started a collaboration with Star Electric Cars (France) for the Super Sport project.

Star Electric Cars is a car designer licensed to create luxury electric golf cars resembling brands like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, and Porsche. They also design unique cars built for presidents, kings and princes around the world.

Only eight copies of this new Aston Martin Super Sport will be built, each color will only be made once. This new model will be more exclusive than the “One-77″, built in only 77 copies.

The Super Sport is a mid-engine engine sports car with genuine “supercar” looks powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.4 liter V8 engine producing 800 up to 950bhp. The power is transferred to the wheels via a six-speed manual trans-axle, fully synchronized with an integral, torque-sensing, helical limited-slip differential. If requested a F1 paddle shift gearbox is available.

The interior includes leather, alcantara, carbon fiber and Recaro seats. The sat nav system has an iPod connection included.

This year, Paris Motor Show will take place from 2-17 octombre and manufacturers’ stands will be arranged in Porte de Versailles. Aston Martin

Aston Martin stand will be full of news. The British builder most likely will come to Paris with its DB9 model. The British supercar received a very delicate facelift, not long ago.

Audi

In Audi’s stand, the audience at the Paris Motor Show will be able to admire the new A7. This Coupe sedan will become the first rival for Mercedes CLS.

Volvo

If Geneva was introduced to the Volvo S60, Paris will see the V60. The wagon version of its S60 received the title of Sports Wagon to emphasize the sport allure.

Edo Competition presents the Aston Martin DBS

Germans from Edo Competition presented a vision of the Aston Martin DBS.

The British model was put under mechanical and aesthetic transformations, thus earning extra sportiveness and aggression.

The engine of 5.9-liter V12 delivering 550 horsepower, 33 horsepower more than the series version and develops a torque of 600 Nm.

The modifications that were worked on the British model consist in recalibrated the ECU unit, installing a new exhaust system and installation of filters that provide an increased air flow.

With all these changes, the Germans creation sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 320 km / h.

For better handling, Edo Competition has mounted a new set of suspension and replaced the brake system with a more efficient one which uses discs with a diameter of 405 mm for front wheels and 380 mm for rear wheels.

Like any tuning house that respects itself, the Germans mounted 21-inch wheels that have Continental tires.

In what concerns the inside, the Germans will choose the materials according to the customer’s requirements.

During the Motor Show in Geneva, the British maker of luxury cars Aston Martin has presented a special edition of a DBS model.

It was created especially to celebrate the ten years that Ulrich Bez spent at the head of the company as CEO.

The British model called the Aston Martin DBS UB and was created in 40 specimens.

Half of these cars will be coupe versions and the other half will be convertible.

The changes from the series version of this model consist in the color used for painting the body, the British choosing the Azurite Black color.

Also, the leather upholstery is painted in a metallic color.

Ulrich Bez had also an important contribution to building this model, the DBS UB was created as he specified it.

Finally, for the model to be a really special one, the company director signed each unit produced. The price of the DBS UB has not yet been disclosed by the company officials.

Tesla is trying to capture the public in Geneva with a futuristic creation, a result of a collaboration with the European Institute of Design of Turin (IED). The concept which will be exhibited, during the event, was called Eye and tries to trace the lines of a sports car, the electric drive train, which can be used every day.

The prototype set by IED measures 4.3 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, 1.4 meters high and is characterized by a folding roof that can turn the compact coupe with four seats in a convertible with just two seats.

Created in collaboration with Tesla, the Eye concept is meant to be powered by an electric drive train.. The only reliable information is the position of the lithium-ion batteries under the back seat.

The IED stand in Geneva will host a concept called Pygmy, based on the Fiat Panda 4×4 and inspired by the agreement between the Italians and the Chrysler Group, and also a sports prototype named Libido, which executes in a futuristic way the excellence and sportsmanship values of Aston Martin.

Aston’s traditional grille is laid in front and center, giving personality to this city car. The taillights also have the Aston’s style, while the inside got sumptuous red and black leather.

Strangely though it may seem, the micro-Aston is considered to be a second car for one who owns the traditional DB9 or V8 Vantage. The Cygnet is suitable for daily usage, providing the much needed luxuries. The traditional customers can now save and enjoy their sports coupes for spirited driving on the weekends.

As a plus, this new concept car meets CO2 standards (or CAFE, if the car were offered here).

Aston Martin is confident that although this is just a concept, we will be surprised see the car on the streets by late 2010.
