Michael Jackson’s kids honor their father at Michael Forever Tribute Concert

Among the many singers who came to honor the King of Pop, Prince, Paris and Blanket made a guest appearance.

The late singer’s three children attended the concert held in memory of their father on Saturday evening, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and Blanket, 9, went on stage briefly to address the public and were accompanied by other members of the Jackson family, who danced to the song made famous by their dad Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.

The children wore outfits evoking their father’s famous styles – Paris most strikingly, dressed in a red jacket similar to the one worn by Jackson in his Thriller music video. Blanket appeared shy, but the older children smiled and looked confident in the spotlight.

The trio introduced a special video performance by Beyoncé, who sang Jackson ‘s hit I Wanna Be Where You Are.

“We’re very happy to be here on this special night to honor our father,” Paris told the 50,000-strong crowd at Cardiff ’s Millennium Stadium.

The stars attending the event included Christina Aguilera, British group JLS, Motown legend Smokey Robinson House, British stars Leona Lewis and Diversity and soul music legend Gladys Knight, with Fearne Cotton and Jamie Foxx hosting the event.

Ne-Yo opened the festivities by climbing up on the stage in the form of a white glove.

“It’s not about the controversy,” the singer-songwriter told the AP regarding the timing of the concert. “It’s not about the trial. It’s not about his death. It’s about celebrating his life. It’s about celebrating his music.”

The concert was also marked by dissensions within the Jackson family. MJ’s brothers Tito, Marlon and Jackie organized the event but siblings Jermaine and Randy boycotted the event, while sister Janet said it would be too painful to perform in Cardiff during the trial.

The concert was an occasion for La Toya Jackson to perform for the first in the past 20 years.

“I had absolutely no intention of performing,” she told Reuters. “I was hesitant about this and at the last minute I said you have to do it for him … and I did, so I’m happy that I did. It’s worth honoring him this way.”

Towards the end of the concert, photos of the singer were projected on giant screens and the Queen of Soul Gladys Knight performed Gone Too Soon, accompanied by a gospel choir.

Earlier, she was joined in a duet of I Just Can’t Stop Loving You by Motown great Smokey Robinson.

“There will be many mimics, but there will never be another Michael Jackson,” Robinson told Reuters.

According to Reuters, reactions of the audience were divided. Although many were excited, some were left “unimpressed” by the artists’ performances, saying that they should have rehearsed more before getting on stage and complaining about the long breaks between songs.

A rep for the Jackson family told TMZ, ” Paris , Blanket and Prince have been asked to attend the MJ Tribute in Wales and they have decided to go.”

“They are extremely excited and they’re hoping they will have the opportunity to contribute in some way by making a speech. Nothing has been set in stone yet for how they can help, but they really hope they can,” the rep added.

However, the children’s uncles Jermaine and Randy are opposing their wish to attend the concert, calling the timing of the tribute “inappropriate.”

“We find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death … We feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event,” the two brothers said in a statement.

The tribute concert will feature guest stars such as Kanye West, Christina Aguilera and Jay-Z and it is rumored that it will be aired on major U.S. networks.

The King of pop’s three children, Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and Blanket, 8, were accompanied by their grandmother Katherine Jackson and their aunt La Toya Jackson.

The items include drawings of Mickey Mouse, signed by Michael Jackson, furniture and other objects. They will decorate the halls of the Los Angeles hospital.

The family donated 10 signed pieces and the children also signed some of them below their father’s name.

It’s a rare public appearance for the Jackson children since their father’s memorial service in 2009.

Michael Jackson allegedly put pressure on a dentist in Las Vegas to make him perform a procedure on Blanket in July 2008, which involved placing the boy under anesthesia for two hours in the office who didn’t have a permit to do that. At that time, the boy was only six years old.

TMZ has obtained internal documents from the Nevada Board of Dental Examiners, which details the relationship Michael Jackson had with Dr. Mark Tadrissi. According to these documents, Tadrissi had initially told the star that he couldn’t provide the requested intervention on Blanket because he lacked authorization.

But according to an investigator questioned by the American website, Michael told the doctor, “Have an anesthesiologist do whatever type of sedation required.”

Tadrissi capitulated and directed two hours of intervention on Blanket who remained under anesthesia throughout that period.

TMZ reports that the ethical authority did take note of this case with Dr. Tadrissi after Michael Jackson’s death and initiated disciplinary proceedings against the practitioner. He was also accused of allowing Michael to receive Propofol in his office without the required permit.

Dr. Tadrissi struck a deal with the Board in 2010. But while he was sanctioned for his sins against Blanket and Michael, in the final report there was no mention of the boy. A source connected with the investigation, cited by TMZ, said pressure was put on the Board to omit Blanket from the report.

But if this reappears in the middle of legal proceedings, it could be of great help for Dr. Murray, accused of having administered Propofol to Michael Jackson, until the fatal dose on June 25, 2009.
