Ferrari presents the Carbon Chrono watch

The Italian supercar manufacturer has prepared a new collection watch called Scuderia Ferrari Carbon Chrono that costs 490 euros. The special edition case is made of SSS (Satin Stainless Steel) and was treated using the technique of physical vapor deposit (PVD).

The interior disc is made of carbon fiber and the glass protector is made of minerals and is anti-reflection treated. Under the Stainless Steel case of the Carbon Chrono watch lies the Swiss quartz chronograph Ronda 5030D. The strap is made of black leather and the stitching on the edge is dark gray.

Ferrari also thought of diving enthusiasts and designed this watch to withstand a pressure of 5 ATM.

The organizers of the World Car of the Year contest announced the finalists of the 2011 edition. They are the Audi A8, BMW Series 5 and Nissan Leaf.

The three models are competing at general categories, while the rest fight for “Green Car of the Year” and “Design of the Year.”

Regarding the “Green Car of the Year”, Nissan Leaf will have to face for the first time since its market debut, the Chevrolet Volt. While the American model is an electric vehicle in the true sense of the word, the two models have been bearing an ideological battle over a year.

The original list of models competing for the title included 39 nominees, chosen by 66 automotive journalists from 24 countries. To be eligible for the 2011 edition World Car of The Year, a model must be available on at least two continents and five countries from January 1, 2010 to May 30, 2011. For this reason, many popular models in the U.S. or Europe are not eligible for this award.

The famous fashion designer Ralph Lauren is coming to Paris along with his impressive car collection. A selection of the most prestigious sports cars from 1930 until today will be open to the European public for the first time at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris between April 28 and 28 August.

The 17 models were chosen by director Rodolphe Rapetti to better reflect the European automotive history. Through this exhibition, Ralph Lauren shows us that the car is art in its most developed form, taken to the extreme by industry’s biggest names. Visitors at the exhibition in Paris will see a series of cars with an impressive history.

Blower Bentley is a model manufactured in 1929 and designed by WO Bentley. Its name comes from the compressor fixed by Sir Hilary Birkin. Bentley Bowler was created with the purpose of winning competitions and, at the same time, it was a car chosen by Ian Fleming in the first parts of the James Bond 007 book.

Another model that will definitely be admired is the Mercedes-Benz SSK Count Trossi. Mercedes SSK models are the archetype of the 1920s models by the Suttgart constructor, and this version bears the name of the Italian aristocrat and pilot Count Carlo Felice Trossi.

Another model with a history that will be present in Paris is Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe. The model was produced in four copies, and today only two of them can be admired.

Also under the “protection” of Ralph Lauren a Ferrari 375 Plus designed by Giovanni Battista Pininfarina in the ’50s can be found. Jaguar XKD is the fastest car of those years and managed to win three times at the 24-Hour Race in Le Mans and a victory in the Nurburgring 24-Hour Race in 1956.

Also in the collection, visitors can admire models Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe and Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. The latter bears the signature of Sergio Scaglietti, one of the most talented bodybuilders at Ferrari. Testa Rossa’s name comes from the red color of the camshaft cover.

Today, Ferrari officials unveiled the first images and technical information for the new FF. This is the replacement for 612 Scaglietti and, at the same time, the most practical Ferrari in history. Besides, the new FF (acronym for Ferrari Four) is the first Italian model with four-wheel drive.

The model is powered by a V12 engine with direct injection, which has a displacement of 6262 cc and offers a maximum output of 660 hp at 8,000 rpm. Peak torque of the V12 unit at 65 degrees is 683 Nm and it is offered at 6,000 rpm. The average fuel consumption is estimated at 15.4 liters per cent, while CO2 emissions are 360 grams per kilometer. The model can reach a top speed of 335 km / h.

Ferrari’s innovative all-wheel drive system is 50% lighter than a conventional all-wheel drive and maintains an ideal weight distribution for a car. Thanks to this system, the new Ferrari FF offers maximum performance regardless of weather conditions. The model is equipped with a new generation of SCM3 electromagnetic dampers and a braking system, with carbon and ceramic items made by Brembo.

The transmission of this model is trans-axle type, which means that the engineers at Ferrari assembled the dual-clutch gearbox near the rear axle. The model can accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, thanks to its remarkable power, as well as its ratio of 2.7 kg per horsepower. Due to optimal weight distribution, the model promises to provide an exceptional level of maneuverability. Being the most practical model Ferrari ever created, it offers a trunk volume of 400 liters (it can be expanded to 800 by folding the rear seat) and can accommodate four passengers. The exterior can be painted in six specific hues.

The debut of the new Ferrari Four will take place at the Geneva Motor Show.

Nowadays, high-end marques are usually on luxury row at the Detroit auto show. This year however, Fiat-owned Ferrari and Maserati will be nestled in alongside some of Fiat’s lesser brands like Dodge and Jeep.
Ferrari didn’t even make it to the Detroit auto show last year because of the economy in a slide. Since then, Chrysler came under Fiat’s control and as such, Fiat will use part of Chrysler’s floor space at the show to show off several of its other brands. This includes sandwiching Fiat’s two most exclusive brands, Ferrari and Maserati, in between the Dodge and Jeep brands.

Rumors say that Chrysler’s display at the Detroit auto show quieted down from its typical extravagance, which usually includes a Jeep waterfall, the inclusion of some of the most exotic sports cars in the world will undoubtedly help draw attention to the automaker.

Rumors also say that Fiat will show the 500 and a Lancia Delta hatchback will be there disguised as a Chrysler. Fiat’s 500 will be the first Italian product from the Chrysler-Fiat tie-up to make its way to the States late next year. Nevertheless, the Chrysler-badged Lancia Delta has not been confirmed for production. Oliver Francois, head of the Chrysler and Lancia brands, however, confirmed that Lancia will get a version of the Sebring sedan. He also said that all future products will be developed jointly for the two brands as they have similar target customers.

Ferrari staff said they won’t compete in Formula 1 after 2012 in case the sportive and technological problems won’t be solved.

The teams in Formula 1 were on the point to leave in corpore the competition last summer, after a conflict during several months with the International Federation of Automobile. The Ferrari official explained also the main three fields which must be changed radically in the next two years : using some technologies which can be implemented on the street cars, reduction of coasts by measures which won’t affect the sportive aspect and the motivation of manufacturers to compete into the Big Circus.
Moreover, Montezemolo showed that the Grand Prix of Formula 1 are too long and they take place at inappropriate hours, but the tickets are also too expensive.
“Is it fair to compete at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. on Sundays in summer time? While football is played at 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. and even 9 p.m. Is it fair to have races during two hours ? Maybe they are too long. Do we need such expensive tickets ? Nowadays, a young man can fly with his girlfriend around the world with a lower amount of money than the best seats in the stands at the Italy Grand Prix. Is it fair? “ , Montezemolo is asking.
