Shania Twain on divorce: “I didn’t want to live”

Twain had learned that her husband was in a relationship with Marie-Anne Thiebaud, assistant and friend of the singer.

“I didn’t want to live,” she told Oprah Winfrey.

The Canadian star now sees the failure of his marriage in a positive light: “It was a very positive thing. I needed the wake-up.”

Lange and Thiebaud have never admitted that they were having an affair and Twain doesn’t yet known details of their relationship.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Twain admits she tried to get answers and get her husband back. She even wrote to Marie-Anne Thiebaud, asking : “Why are you torturing me? Let it go, please. Find love somewhere else from someone else.”

“I know it was pathetic. But we all have pathetic moments. No one is above this type of low,” the country superstar, 45, says.

While attempting to recover from her divorce, Twain turned to the husband of Marie-Anne, Thiebaud Frederick. They ended up falling in love and married in January in Puerto Rico.

Twain is now trying to regain her voice. She recently consulted a doctor in Nashville who diagnosed a problem with her vocal cords, as the muscles are tightened in her throat. The artist attributes this condition to years of fear: having witnessed domestic violence in childhood, the death of her parents and years of stage fright before going on stage.

“I’ve trapped my own voice, and now I’ve got to unwipe all that. I really can’t imagine not singing again,” she says.

This episode of the talk-show aired Tuesday, May 3. Shania’s new TV series premiers Sunday on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network..

And the lucky winner, Frederic Thiebaud, is none other than … the ex-husband of the woman that Twain’s husband of 14 years, Robert “Mutt” Lange, allegedly left her for in 2008.

The union was celebrated on New Year’s Day on the island of Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean.

“They were married at sunset in front of 40 of their closest family and friends,” Twain’s rep, Jason Owen, said in a statement on the Canadian singer’s website.

The couple announced their engagement last month. Shania Twain, 45, divorced producer Robert Lange two years ago, after fourteen years of marriage.

The singer wrote about Thiebaud on her blog in 2009: “(Thiebaud) has been the most constant companion of support for both Eja and me, and having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time under the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone.”

In a letter written on her blog last month, Twain announced her engagement to Thiebaud.

“I am very excited to share this news with you personally, I’m in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud was a gift for me. I found him a friend and sensitive listening. Over time, an extraordinary love sprang from the friendship.”

The country star’s rep made the announcement to Us Weekly magazine on Monday afternoon, just days after his client had been photographed in a restaurant in New York wearing an engagement ring set with a three carat diamond.

“I’ve never seen Shania so happy,” revealed a friend of the star for the magazine, stating that Frederick Thiebaud, who works for the Nestle company, popped the question in Switzerland last October.

Frédéric Thiebaud, 40, was the husband of Marie-Anne Thiebaud, the former best friend of Shania Twain. Ms. Thiebaud had in turn been the mistress of Twain’s first husband, record producer Robert Lange.

Shania Twain and Robert Lange have ended their relationship in May 2008 after 14 years of marriage. They are the parents of a 9-year-old boy named Eja.

A few months later, the singer was spotted in the company of Frédéric Thiebaud during her stays in Canada, New York and Florida.

In August 2009, the Canadian star finally confirmed the rumor that she was in a relationship with Thiebaud.

“He is a dear friend and true gentleman…We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We’ve become stronger and closer through it all,” Shania wrote on her official website.

Last September, the singer announced that she will release her autobiography next spring. She explained to People the reasons which led her to write her memoirs.

“There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come,” she said in a statement.

“Recently I experienced one of those moments to an intensity that brought on a sudden urgency to document my life before I ran out of time, before I had the opportunity to share an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words.”

As her publishers recently announced, the singer will reveal who she struggled to be someone in country music industry. According to Simon & Schuster, the autobiography will be available on market starting the first half on 2011.

It seems that Shania will describe the difficult moments that she has been since the 1987 tragic death of her parents and how she struggled to take care of her three younger siblings.

She said that the book is “an honest and complete account of my life, in my own words.” “There have been moments in my life I was concerned by the reality that tomorrow would never come.
