Citing unnamed sources, the SB Nation reported Monday that Madonna is the artist invited to perform at the Super Bowl XLVI.

In 2011, the Black Eyed Peas performed during the halftime show of the annual sporting event.

This isn’t the first time Madonna is approached by the NFL to sing at the Super Bowl, the most watched event on American television, with an audience of nearly 100 million viewers. In 2008, she appeared in an ad for Sunsilk, aired during the halftime show.

The NFL championship game will be held Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Three months after this incident, the singer tries to look back at it with humor.

“That night I knew, I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question…In 2011 what female singer, ya know, flubbed the lyrics. It’s just insane,” she said. “But I have a really good laugh about it and you get over things. You get back up again and you just prove to yourself and to everyone you that much stronger.”

“I took in the moment a little bit too much. Shoot me for appreciating the moment but here I am at the Super Bowl…singing for a team and in front of the world. And remembering what it was like to be that young and look where I made it now,” Christina told Ellen.

Aguilera has been confirmed as a coach/judge on a new reality singing competition, The Voice, which premieres tonight on NBC.

Watched by over 100 million viewers, Aguilera, 30, sang the phrase “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming” instead of “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.”

When she learned she would sing the national anthem during the ceremony, the singer said: “I play the anthem since I was seven years and I must say that the Super Bowl is a dream become reality. I’m really excited to be part of something as iconic. ”

Witnesses told Popeater that the crowd at the Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas had reacted sharply to Aguilera’s blunder. “This was the biggest performance of her career and she blew it,” a source said. “To mess up the lyrics was a disaster.” The public also widely commented on the case on Twitter. ” This is the biggest moment a singer/entertainer can ask for and she messed it up!” a Twitter user wrote.

As a result of this blunder, the singer apologized in a statement to the Associated Press, saying: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

The first known artist, and usually the most important, is always the one that will perform on the halftime show.

This year the honor goes to the Black Eyed Peas, who will enjoy one of world’s most important television platforms, with the number of listeners on the planet surpassing half a billion.

“It’ll be a party in the middle of the game,” Fergie, the lead singer of the group, told People. “All of the sudden, whether your team is winning or losing, we want to make you have a good time. That’s our goal.”

On Thursday, it was announced that the group will share their moment of glory with two other international artists, namely Usher and guitarist Slash, who will join the quartet on stage.

Other names include Maroon 5, who will perform during the pre-game festivities on Sunday, Christina Aguilera who will be singing the American national anthem, Lea Michele, Keith Urban and the Blue Man Group.

On November 27, 2005, the Black Eyed Peas had been commissioned to entertain Canadian football fans during the festivities of the 93rd edition of the Grey Cup in Vancouver.
