To compete with the Canon G11, Nikon will change – among others – its sensor 1/1.72 ” of 13.5 MP with one of 1/1.7″ and a resolution of only 10 MP. It means that they have a slightly larger sensor with a lower resolution.
A lower density of MP / cm² should bring an increase in picture’s quality, highly wanted for a top compact.
Moreover, Nikon could change the objective 28-112 mm (4x optical zoom) and f/2.7-5.9 with one of 28-200 mm (7x optical zoom) with f/2.8-5.6.
For comparison, the Canon G11 has before its sensor a 28-140 mm focal length lens (5x optical zoom) and f/2.8-4.5.
Another rumor regarding Nikon’s model is that it could allow the burst shooting w 8 frames per second. It is expected that the future P7000 to have the same patina metal body for external flash, hidden integrated flash and a more ergonomic grip than the one offered by Canon.
It remains to be seen whether Nikon will also retain its optical eyepiece.
An official announcement about the Nikon P7000 is expected in the near future, given that this fall Canon could provide us a G12.
